Have you ever thought, “Life would be easier if….”? We are all prone to think that way, to look at the grass on the other side of the fence and think it really is greener. And as the common retort to that statement goes; maybe it is, but you still have to mow it!
I recall attending an event years ago where “The Family Man” Todd Wilson spoke. I still remember the main point of his message: “Life is hard, but life is good.” This is true in all facets of our life: relationships, health, finance, career, and often in just the normal everyday stuff. It is so easy to see the hard in our own life and the comfort of others without taking time to see the complete package.
Five years ago, I made the decision to get healthy and I am so glad I did. I found a program that worked for me and as a result not only got healthy, but became a certified health coach. Now, five years later I eat healthy, I exercise regularly, and I feel much better! Getting there really wasn’t too hard. I simply follow the plan – coupled with a little grit that my wife calls stubbornness doesn’t hurt either!
Staying there on the other hand still sometimes proves a little challenging. I’ve had some ups and downs, but even my worst days now are better than my best days five years ago and I have learned to not allow my falling off the wagon to give me an excuse to stay there.
Having a health coach, being a health coach, and other healthy community helps keep me accountable. And yet there are times when the grass (or maybe it’s the buffet) does look a little greener on the other side. But, staying focused on the big picture does help. And something I read about a year ago often helps me do just that: “Being overweight is hard, being healthy is hard, choose your hard.”
When it comes to all areas of our health we are either investing in our tomorrows or borrowing from them. If you’re ready to get healthy, I encourage you to do it in community. If you would like to join mine I would love to talk with you more! Drop me an email at tom@tomfrye.net and lets get started!
